What Is Menstruation Delay?
Menstruation delay refers to the intentional postponement of menstrual bleeding. This can be achieved through hormonal medications that adjust the menstrual cycle. Two commonly used medications in Europe for this purpose are Primolut N and Orgametril.
- Primolut N: Contains the active ingredient norethisterone, a synthetic form of the hormone progesterone. It works by maintaining high levels of progesterone, preventing the shedding of the uterine lining, and thus delaying menstruation.
- Orgametril: Contains lynestrenol, another synthetic progestogen. It similarly sustains elevated progesterone levels to postpone menstrual bleeding.
Who Might Consider Menstruation Delay?
Delaying menstruation can be beneficial for individuals who:
- Have significant events: Such as weddings, holidays, or sports competitions, where menstruation could be inconvenient.
- Experience menstrual-related issues: Including severe cramps, heavy bleeding, or premenstrual syndrome, and wish to manage these symptoms during specific times.
- Have medical conditions: Like endometriosis, where delaying menstruation might be part of the treatment plan.
